How Born To Rebel Became a Gothic Family Fashion Brand
From Children’s Clothing to a Dark Alternative World: How Born To Rebel Grew With Me
People often talk about motherhood as if it requires you to become a softer, quieter or more conventional version of yourself.
That was never going to be my story.
Black clothing, silver jewelry, music, expressive design and the darker side of fashion had always felt natural to me. They were not a phase or a costume. They were simply part of my identity.
When I became a mother, that identity did not disappear. Instead, it gave me a new reason to create.
I Couldn’t Find the Clothes I Wanted for My Children
Shopping for children’s clothing often felt like stepping into a world that had nothing to do with mine.
The same colors appeared everywhere. The same sweet graphics, predictable slogans and familiar styles filled every shop. There was nothing wrong with them, but they did not feel connected to me or to the visual world I wanted to share with my children.
I wanted black children’s clothing with character.
I wanted original illustrations, alternative details and pieces that felt playful without losing their edge. Clothes that children could actually live in, but that still carried a distinctive identity.
Born To Rebel began as my answer to what I could not find.
Alternative Style Does Not End When Motherhood Begins
Becoming a mother changes almost everything, but it does not have to erase personal style.
For me, fashion has never been about following trends. It is a way of communicating without explaining, through color, texture, jewelry, graphics and the details people choose to wear.
That is just as true for mothers as it is for anyone else.
It is also why Born To Rebel was never meant to remain only a children’s clothing brand. The first collections began with kids, but the world behind them was always much larger.
As my family grew and my own creative direction became clearer, I began imagining clothing, handmade gothic jewelry and alternative accessories that could exist together, not as separate products, but as different parts of the same visual story.
Dark Fashion Is More Than Halloween
The word “gothic” is often reduced to costumes, horror imagery or Halloween. But that is not the gothic world that inspires Born To Rebel.
For me, dark fashion can be elegant, modern and deeply personal.
It can be an oversized black T-shirt with an original illustration. A silver necklace built from chains, metal hardware and a distinctive pendant.
A simple black bodysuit finished with one unexpected detail. A child’s outfit that feels cool and expressive without looking like a costume.
The darkness is found in the atmosphere, the materials and the attitude, not in filling every piece with obvious gothic symbols.
That balance has become central to the brand: strong but wearable, distinctive but not theatrical, dark without becoming predictable.
Creating the Pieces I Want to See in the World
Today, much of Born To Rebel begins at my own worktable.
I develop original illustrations and graphics for the clothing. I design and assemble jewelry by combining chains, metal components, hardware and dark details. I work through proportions, finishes and placement until each piece feels like it belongs to the brand.
The process is personal and intentionally small.
I am not interested in creating products simply because they are popular.
I want every original design to feel recognizable. something that could only belong to Born To Rebel.
Alongside the pieces I create, I select accessories that help complete the look. They are chosen because they fit naturally into the same aesthetic and add something meaningful to it, not because I want to fill the store with more products.
The result is a carefully built alternative wardrobe for women and children, with clothing, gothic jewelry and dark accessories that can be worn together or styled individually.
A Brand That Grew Instead of Starting Over
Born To Rebel has changed significantly since its beginning, but I do not see that change as abandoning its original identity.
The children’s clothing was the beginning of the story.
The women’s pieces, handmade jewelry, original artwork and curated accessories are its natural continuation. The brand has simply grown into a fuller and more honest representation of the world that inspired it from the start.
It is darker now. More gothic. More refined. More personal.
And that growth reflects my own life: a mother, a designer and a woman who never believed that individuality should disappear with age, responsibility or parenthood.
Born To Rebel is still evolving.
But everything it becomes will always begin in the same place, with the freedom to create what I cannot find, and the belief that women, children and families should be able to express themselves without fitting into someone else’s idea of ordinary.
Wear Your Darkness.
